It’s that time of the year again. The air is getting cooler, ads for office supplies dominate commercial breaks and the smell of pink erasers is in the air.
Ah yes. Back to school.
Beyond the dread of upcoming homework and many months of mom’s white bread and bologna sandwiches, the fall can be an exciting time of new beginnings.
Today we’d like to speak specifically to the post-secondary students in our midst. Maybe you’re attending a local school and kicking it at home for another few years to save some cash. Or perhaps you’ve escaped the world of mom’s bologna sandwiches and are hitting the road to attend college or university in another city.
The reality is that whether near or far from home, post-secondary life brings with it a unique set of experiences and challenges. For those heading to college or university for the first time this year, the coming months have lots of new things in store for you! The good news is that you belong to the family of faith and can connect with other young Catholics no matter where you are.
Most post-secondary institutions have a campus ministry or Catholic club to get involved in. Check out the list of chaplaincies below. Also keep your eye out for Newman Centres or lay movements such as Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) or FOCUS (present on many American campuses). Finally, be sure to check out the Canadian Catholic Students’ Association (CCSA), whose goal is to unite Catholic students from campuses across Canada.
All of these groups provide great resources, activities and opportunities to meet new friends and stay involved in your faith during your post-secondary years.
May God bless you in your continuing journey of education!
